Last January 15, 2021, librarians in the Henry Luce III Library of Central Philippine University continued their training on “Reskilling Librarians on instructional and research competence.” This is a continuation of their training last December 21-22, 2020.
The goal of this training is to equip librarians with knowledge and skills in research. This is to help librarians assist students and faculty in their research activities. This is aligned with the university’s thrust to improve research output.
Dr. Reysa Alenzuela, Library consultant and Graduate School professor, facilitated the training.
The librarians learned how to use research tools such as Google Scholar, ProQuest, and online open access databases.
For the training output, the librarians were divided into groups. They were tasked to create a presentation for students and faculty on how to use research tools. Library Director Ma. Cynthia Peleña and Dr. Reysa Alenzuela judged the presentations. The winning group received a cash prize.
The winner for the group presentations was Team “Ci Tea Tion” composed of Chilou Batoon (American Corner & KDC Librarian), Jennifer Bode (Acquisition Librarian), Christian Mosqueda (Library Secretary & Theology Library in-charge), and Rose Canson (Elementary School Librarian).
Vince Palcullo (Archives Librarian) was the speaker for the last part of the training. The topic was how to use reference management software such as Mendeley and Zotero. These tools can help researchers in organizing their data.
Finding information is often like “searching for a needle in a haystack.” Librarians can help our users in finding the right information for their needs. The library also continues to improve its services to better serve Centralians.
