Henry Luce III Library and URC Conduct Seminar-Workshop on Scholarly Publishing

In partnership with the University Research Center (URC), the Henry Luce III Library conducted a seminar-workshop entitled “Scholarly Publishing Essentials: Evaluating Journals and Understanding Publication Timelines” on June 4, 2025, at the HLL Conference Room. This capacity-building initiative was designed to enhance the competencies of faculty members, particularly those engaged in research instruction, in evaluating the credibility of academic journals, avoiding predatory publications, and understanding the standard timelines involved in the scholarly publishing process.

The activity was well-attended by faculty representatives from all colleges and academic departments of Central Philippine University (CPU), underscoring the institution’s continued commitment to fostering a robust research culture. The event was spearheaded by Prof. Vince Ervin V. Palcullo and Ms. Via Marie F. Dumenden, with the steadfast support of Prof. Ma. Cynthia T. Peleña, Director of University Libraries, and Dr. Evelyn Grace D. Ayson, Ph.D., Director of the University Research Center.

The resource speaker, Prof. Daryl L. Superio of Northern Iloilo State University (NISU), delivered a comprehensive lecture on the academic publication process. His presentation focused on critical aspects of scholarly publishing, including strategies for identifying reputable journals, discerning characteristics of predatory publishers, and managing the expectations and timelines associated with manuscript submission and peer review.

This academic engagement highlights the shared efforts of the Henry Luce III Library and the URC in promoting research integrity, publication literacy, and academic excellence within the CPU community.
