CPU Librarian Graduates from Prestigious Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok Thailand

Vince Ervin V. Palcullo, a librarian and assistant professor at the Henry Luce III Library of Central Philippine University, marked the culmination of his dedicated efforts by receiving his diploma from Chulalongkorn University on October 2, 2024, during a ceremony held at the Chulalongkorn University Auditorium in Bangkok, Thailand. Chulalongkorn University, recognized as the No. 1 university in Thailand since 2009, is ranked 229th in the QS World University Rankings 2025. Palcullo completed his Master of Arts in Information Studies degree under the prestigious ASEAN/NON-ASEAN Scholarship of Chulalongkorn University, with additional support from the faculty development program of Central Philippine University.

The graduation was a momentous occasion, graced by the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the third child of the late King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit of Thailand. The Princess personally conferred the diplomas to the graduates. Adorned in the Chulalongkorn University’s inditricate academic gown called “khrui”, the graduates respectfully bowed as they received their diplomas from the Thai Princess.

Reflecting on his academic journey, Palcullo shared that it was far from easy. Over the course of two and a half years, he successfully balanced his academic responsibilities with internship and volunteering engagements, all while adapting to life in a foreign country and immersing himself in the rich cultural landscape of Thailand.

Palcullo’s achievement underscores his unwavering commitment to both personal and professional development. His accomplishment highlights the opportunities presented by international collaboration and academic scholarships, such as the ASEAN/NON-ASEAN Scholarship.

Palcullo’s journey is a testament to the growing significance of cross-border educational exchanges and the increasing recognition of library and information studies as a crucial field in today’s knowledge-based society.

Celebrating alongside his sister and friends, Palcullo shared the joyful occasion with his Thai friends from the Faculty of Arts, and the Thailand and ASEAN Information Center (TAIC). Together, they embraced the festivities, showcasing a vibrant blend of cultural perspectives.

Palcullo also had the honor of taking a commemorative photo with the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Associate Professor Suradech Chotiudompant, Ph.D.
