Henry Luce III Library Hosts Exhibit Honoring Demy P. Sonza at CPU 

Central Philippine University (CPU) has posthumously honored esteemed historian and journalist Demetrio “Demy” P. Sonza by holding the first Demy P. Sonza Memorial Lecture. The tribute culminated in a historical presentation by renowned historian Ambeth Ocampo, who delivered the lecture entitled “Rizal Without the Overcoat” at the Rose Memorial Auditorium on March 3, 2025. 

An exhibition of his publications was held at the Henry Luce III Library, which is part of the inaugural Demy P. Sonza Memorial Lecture series. The Library welcomes students, faculty, and the public to visit the exhibit and explore Sonza’s literary works until March 7. 

The exhibit features six of Sonza’s significant works: The Stirred Pool (1951), Visayan Freedom Fighters (1962), Mightier Than Sword (1964), Sugar is Sweet (1977), A Diadem of Pearls (1980), and Adriano Hernandez (2001). These publications highlight Sonza’s contributions to historical literature and journalism, reflecting his unyielding dedication to history, culture, and literature.

CPU’s initiative to honor Sonza underscores its commitment to recognizing the achievements of Centralians who have made significant contributions to society. The exhibit serves as a testament to Sonza’s enduring legacy and influence in the fields of history and journalism.
