BERTHA is the library virtual assistant of Henry Luce III Library. If you need something or have a question, just chat her through the CPU Henry Luce III Facebook page. Just send a message and Bertha will reply right away to answer your concerns.

The idea for the virtual reference assistant was from our library director, Prof. Ma. Cynthia Peleña. This was before the COVID-19 pandemic. During the lockdown, BERTHA was conceptualized and launched to cater to the needs of the CPU community and outside researchers, even when they can’t visit the library. BERTHA was launched last June 22, 2020, Monday. CPU faculty, alumni, students, and outside researchers have used the service.

The concept of Bertha was in honor of Anna Bertha Houger, the first American librarian who served in the university from 1910-1940. Facebook was used as the platform for this service as most of our users have a Facebook account and it is more convenient for them to send a message through Facebook messenger.

To chat Bertha, clients can message. Check out the handy chatbox on the lower right side of this website and ask Bertha anything. You can also e-mail Bertha at berthahll@cpu.edu.ph.

Bertha is available to chat from Mondays to Saturdays, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM except for Sundays and Holidays. Questions and requests sent on Sundays or holidays will be catered on the next working day.

Scanning requests are accommodated Mondays to Fridays, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except holidays.
